“Stamp Out Hunger” Letter Carriers Drive
On Saturday, May 12, 2007, Southern Arizona letter carriers will collect food donations to benefit those at greatest risk in an effort to fight hunger during the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
For the 15th year, the Community Food Bank will join the letter carriers’ effort to provide food to depleted supplies. “In a typical year the Community Food Bank receives enough food from holiday drives to last until the National Letter Carriers Food Drive. This past year holiday giving was down and we have already exhausted our food drive supply,” said Bill Carnegie, Community Food Bank CEO.
To help Stamp Out Hunger in Southern Arizona, simply leave a bag of non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 12. Food items should be in non-breakable containers such as boxes or cans. Local letter carriers will collect donations and deliver them to the Community Food Bank.
“May 12th marks the date that we can make a significant impact on hunger in Southern Arizona. With the help of every letter carrier, their families, the staff of the Community Food Bank and hundreds of local volunteers, we CAN make a difference,” added Carnegie.
