CFB Celebrates Arizona Farmers’ Market Week

radishes.jpgThe Community Food Bank Farmers’ Markets are pleased to join in the celebration of “Arizona Farmers’ Market Week.”

Governor Janet Napolitano has proclaimed August 5 through August 11, 2007 as “Arizona Farmers’ Market Week” and encourages all citizens to celebrate the benefits of farmers’ markets and the bountiful production of Arizona growers and producers by visiting their local market.

More than 50 farmers’ markets throughout the state offer consumers farm-fresh and healthy products such as fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers and much more.

Many Markets participate in the Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition Program and the Food Stamps at the Market project to improve low-income households’ access to healthy fresh food choices.

The Community Food Bank is proud of its two Farmers’ Markets; the Tuesday Farmers’ Market at 3003 S. Country Club Road and the Santa Cruz Farmers’ Market on Thursdays in the Santa Cruz River Park at North Riverside between St. Mary’s and Speedway.  The Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market was recently recognized by Eating Well magazine as one of “America’s Top 10 Farmers’ Markets.”  To have received the award, the Santa Cruz market must offer food produced locally, sold directly and cultivated in an environmentally conscious way.

Enjoy one of the State’s farmers’ markets during “Arizona Farmers’ Market Week August 5 through August 11, 2007.
