Actus Lend Lease Gives Back to Community Food Bank

The Tucson Community Food Bank will be one of many worthy organizations given a helping hand when the Lend Lease Group holds their annual Community Day on Thursday, September 30, 2010.

Community Day encourages Lend Lease employees around the globe to give something back to the communities in which they live and work. Employees select a local charity to work with and agree on a project which will best benefit that organization. Past activities have included visiting senior citizens, working at homeless shelters, cleaning up the local environment, raising money for animal shelters, and spending the day with underprivileged children.

Community Day is dedicated to utilizing Lend Lease employees’ time, energy and skills to reach out to the community and show we care. However, the chosen organization is not the only one who benefits, employees benefit from this experience as well seeing that it helps to create a strong team spirit and overall very enjoyable day. Employees unanimously agree – Community Day is an immensely rewarding experience.

On September 30, Around 30 employees from the Lend Lease Group at Soaring Heights Communities will converge at the Food Bank Farm in Marana and the Food Bank Warehouse to pick vegetables, weed gardens, prepare vegetables for the market, pack boxes of food and snack bags for kids, as well as any other chores needed to help the Tucson Community Food Bank feed those in need.

Vicki Becker, team leader of the Food Bank Project, says “This project was chosen because we believe in their mission and we have been working diligently for a couple of years now to establish an ongoing relationship with the food bank. Our endeavours include an ongoing “Virtual Food Drive”, annual Community Day projects, collecting food and monetary donations at company events, recycling aluminium cans with proceeds given to the food bank, even recycling plastic bags by collecting and donating them to the food bank for their reuse.”

Soaring Heights at Davis-Monthan AFB is proud of the long term community partnership it has created with the local food bank. Community Day always brings out the best in employees and enables them to show their commitment to Southern Arizona, particularly to those who have been affected by current economic conditions. In Vicki’s words, “It is the very essence of what Community Day is all about!”

This is Lend Lease’s 15th consecutive Community Day. Since the initiative began in 1996, employees have volunteered over 450,000 hours.
