Marana Heritage Farm Still in the Running for Fruit Orchard

The first phase of the “Communities Take Root” program sponsored by Dreyer’s Fruit Bars ended May 31, 2011, but the next phase continues until June 30th. The Marana Heritage Farm is still in the running to win a one acre fruit orchard.

The locations with the most votes will win a fruit orchard provided by Dreyer’s Fruit Bars and planted by the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. The Marana entry has 11,787 votes and is in 4th place as of June 1, 2011.

To help the Marana Heritage Farm win a fruit orchard simply log on to www.communitiestakeroot.com and register.  Follow the instructions to the list of states, then to the communities and vote for Marana: The Community Food Bank. People of all ages are invited to cast one vote a day and encourage your friends and family to help as well.

If the Marana Heritage Farm wins a one acre orchard, it will provide fruit for the Food Bank’s Child Hunger and Nutrition programs and a demonstration area to teach about raising fruit trees in the desert.

The Town of Marana and the Community Food Bank are partnering to create a vibrant education and demonstration farm for the community.  To learn more visit www.communityfoodbank.com/maranafarm.
