94.9 MIXfm is Hosting Thanksgiving on the Mayflower

With the holiday season fast approaching, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is entering its busiest time of year, a time when the food bank struggles to make sure every person and family in need receives a meal.  94.9 MIXfm and community partners Tucson Electric Power, Rosemont Copper, Sunflower Markets and Meridian Mayflower Moving Systems want to help.

The community partners will be collecting canned items by having “Thanksgiving on the Mayflower,” a community-giving opportunity to fill an entire Mayflower moving truck with non-perishable items to restock the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.  The event will be held November 17th.

“Because the Food Bank is experiencing a 25% increase in demand by hungry Southern Arizona families, we are asking our listeners to come out to the Sunflower Market store at 1st and Limberlost and drop off donations— especially nonperishable food items like canned meats, soups, yams, pie fillings, vegetables, stuffing mix and peanut butter,” said Bobby Rich, host of the Bobby Rich Morning MIX.

“The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona can distribute over nine dollars in food for every one dollar donated,” said Shaun Holly, operations manager of Journal Broadcast Group – Tucson Radio Operations.  “On final tally from our drive last year, our community raised more than $131,000 and collected more than 7,000 pounds of food for the Community Food Bank of Sothern Arizona. And thanks to Tucson Electric Power, cash donations made at the 1st and Limberlost location will be matched dollar for dollar,”
