2013 Desert Harvester Series at the Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market
The 2013 Desert Harvester Series at the Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market will kick off on Thursday, April 25, 2013 and run through Thursday, November 21, 2013. The Market is located in the Mercado San Agustin at 100 S. Avenida de Convento (near the corner of Congress and Grande) [View Larger Map].
The Desert Harvest is a series of workshops, cooking demonstrations and informational activities about native foods and plants of our area and how to make better use of them.
The workshop topics will be:
April 25th, 3:00 to 6:00 PM – Cholla Buds with Amy Valdés Schwemm.
May 16th, 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Nopalitos with Amy Valdés Schwemm.
June 6th, 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Mesquite Harvesting with Jeau Martin.
June 20th, 4”00 to 7:00 PM – Bean Trees with Barbara Rose.
July 18th, 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Verdolagas with Nadia Delgado & Patricia Rojas.
August 15th, 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Prickly Pear Fruit with Amy Valdés Schwemm.
November 21st, 3:00 to 6:00 PM – Annual Mesquite Milling with the Las Milpitas Farm and Barbara Rose.
All workshops are free and open to the public.
The Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market is a program of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and accepts SNAP (food stamps), WIC vouchers, Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition vouchers, cash, as well as credit and debit cards.
