21st Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive Breaks All Records for Donations to Community Food Bank

The National Association of Letter Carriers 21st Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 broke all records for donations to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.  The Community Food Bank has received 381,142 pound of food and $106,318.13 in monetary donations.  These totals surpassed all previous year’s donations.

On Saturday, May 11th, residents were asked to leave a bag of non-perishable food next to their mailbox before the time of their regular mail delivery.  Letter carriers and volunteers collected the food and returned it to area postal stations.  From there the donations were transported to the Community Food Bank in Tucson, the Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food and Nogales Community Food Bank.  “Stamp Out Hunger” is Southern Arizona’s largest single day food drive of the year.

“The Community Food Bank is thankful for the community support during this year’s NALC “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive,” said Bill Carnegie, President/CEO.  “We broke all records and the food and funds are still coming in.  Our appreciation goes to the tremendous efforts of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the volunteers and staff who made this year’s event the best ever. ”

“Stamp Out Hunger” monetary donations may still be made at (520) 882-3296 or online here.
