Holiday Season

Helping with Holiday Meals

If you were to ask a child who is only four years old what it is like not to have enough food to eat, they wouldn’t use fancy words or statistical reports. They would just tell you, “My tummy aches. I’m hungry.”

This is the sad reality we face every day as we watch lines grow longer, and more hardworking families reach out to ask for help at a place they never thought they would be.

The holiday season is here. Your gift to the Community Food Bank may be more needed than any other gift you give this holiday season. Please help out today. Your donation will truly be a gift that matters for those in need.

Together we can make sure that hungry people in our community are able to celebrate this time of thankfulness.

While it might seem daunting to feed thousands of people, the hungry in our community are sure hoping we can. With your gift, together we can feed thousands in Southern Arizona who need a little extra help this year. We are able to take every $1 you give and distribute nearly $9 worth of food. Your gift means the world to a hungry family. Please give generously!

#GivingTuesday December 3

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Tuesday – a national day to give back to charities through giving time, money, services. – the same way Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become nationally recognized days for shopping and sales. #GivingTuesday. It’s a simple idea: we are calling into action all Americans to celebrate giving and to have a conversation about ways to give more, give smarter, and put personal philanthropy back into the giving season!

Legal Community Against Hunger

Legal Community Member: It’s LCAH’s 25th Anniversary!  Since 1988, LCAH has been motivating the legal community to support the Community Food Bank.

Hunger is still a formidable foe.

  • 16% of Southern Arizonans live below the Federal Poverty Level.
  • 1 in 4 Arizona children is at risk of hunger.
  • 225,000 people need and receive assistance from the Food Bank every month.
  • The Food Bank distributes enough food for 61,000 meals a day.

Looking to the Future:  Let’s celebrate LCAH’s 25th Anniversary by renewing our vows!  We have a terrific partner in the Community Food Bank. Let’s pledge another 25 years of partnering with the Community Food Bank to bring relief to our neighbors at risk of hunger.

LCAH donations make a difference! The Food Bank works miracles with your money! A whopping 97% of its funds from all sources goes directly into food assistance programs. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank distributes $8.75 of food. That makes your $50 gift worth $437.50 in food. A gift of $250 buys $2,187.50 worth of food!  Talk about bang for your buck!

For the 25th year in a row, Legal Community Against Hunger wishes you happy, healthy holidays and a New Year in which you and your loved ones never experience hunger.

94.9 MIXfm to Host ‘Thanksgiving on the Mayflower’ Food Drive Nov. 14

Tucson, Ariz. — 94.9 MIXfm and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will hold a one-day fundraising and food drive from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 14 for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. The collection, sponsored in part by Rosemont Copper and Sam’s Club, will be held at Sam’s Club, 4701 N. Stone Ave.
The ninth annual “Thanksgiving on the Mayflower” event challenges the Tucson community to fill an entire Meridian Mayflower Moving Systems moving truck with non-perishable items and to make cash donations to the Community Food Bank. The Community Food Bank’s buying power and business practices allow it to distribute about $9 worth of food for every one dollar donated.

TEP will donate up to $50,000 to match cash contributions from listeners during the event. “TEP and its employees want the best for our community. It’s our home, too, and we hope this food drive will make Thanksgiving a little brighter for at-risk children, families and others,” said TEP Chairman and CEO Paul Bonavia.
In the past 12 months, the Community Food Bank has experienced a six percent increase in requests for help when compared with the previous 12 months. The increase in demand comes at what is traditionally the busiest time of year for the organization.

“This has been an especially difficult year for many local families. Feeding their kids is always a priority, so let’s give them a real reason to feel thankful,” said Bobby Rich, host of the Bobby Rich Morning MIX. “It’s important to remember that TEP is doing cash matching—so donations will feed even more of the needy families.”
94.9 MIXfm will broadcast live throughout the day during the November 14 drive from the parking lot of Sam’s Club on Stone, just south of River. In addition to cash, acceptable donations include nonperishable food items like canned meats, soups, yams, pie fillings, vegetables, stuffing mix and peanut butter.

KMXZ-FM 94.9 MIXfm is one of four radio stations in the Tucson market owned by Journal Broadcast Group.
