THEIR STORY….
Just Coffee was formed in a village in Chiapas, Mexico by the coffee Farmers themselves. By eliminating the “middle man” the farmers were able to get a good, fair and just price for their coffee. Now their co-op consists of 35 coffee Farmers and 1 roaster in Agua Prieta, Mexico. Just Coffee has it’s own Board of Directors that oversee the business with the assistance of the Just Trade Center in Douglas, Arizona. The Just Trade Center is a non-profit group that lends “technical and business” assistance. The object is to get Just Coffee on it’s own completely in the very near future. Plans are being developed for 2 other roasters in different locations to take to markets in Southern California and Texas. The coffee coming from the co-op in Chiapas only represents approximately 40% of all the coffee grown there. Other Farmers are waiting to get into the co-op. The only way this can happen is if the market base increases for the product currently farmed. We need more people purchasing the coffee consistently to bring these other Farmers in. YOU CAN HELP! Purchase your coffee today, visit the Community Food Bank.
Through a deep desire to help the people at Just Coffee the Community Food Bank has become a distributor for their simple, good and fair 100% organic coffees. The partnership was formed after an emotional trip to Agua Prieta where Just Coffee’s only roaster is located. The story of Just Coffee was told through a translator by their Roasting Manager. A story of pride, a story of true entrepreneurship, a story of a proud people returning to their village……. one farmer at a time.
Just Coffee is completely owned and operated by the Farmers within the co-op. By receiving a fair price for their coffee they have been able to provide health insurance to all involved in the co-op and their families, built a Health Center in the Village, improved their schools and are in the process of building a water filtration plant.
By purchasing Just Coffee products from the Community Food Bank you’ll not only be helping the Farmers in Chiapas, you will be helping the Food Bank too! Join us…
