The Marana Food Bank serves the Marana area, Rillito, Cortaro and Twin Peaks area. We offer Food Bokid.jpgxes to people in these communities who are hungry.

Client Hours-
We will distribute food  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday hours: 9:00 a.m. to noon.
We will not distribute food on Mondays and the first working day of each month.View 2012 Calendar.

Donation Hours-
Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Or visit one of our many drop-off sites around Marana.

The Marana Community Food Bank is presenting an evening of reminiscing and fun on Saturday April 14, 2012
at the Heritage Highlands Clubhouse in Dove Mountain.

Good Vibrations – Food Donations is a return to the 60s dance featuring the Sixties Garage Band and dinner prepared by award winning Chef Michael Veres. Last year’s event was a complete sell out and we expect nothing less this year.

Your participation will ensure that the Marana Community Food Bank can continue its work in meeting the food needs of the hungry in Marana, Picture Rocks, Avra Valley and northwest Tucson.

How to Get Your Piece of a Smile

 

A young woman recently sat in the lobby area of the Marana Community Food Bank and smiled down at the cake she held in her lap.  It was covered with bright pink frosting and there were a few roses along the side.  She was so excited I don’t think she noticed that a couple of the flowers were a little flat.  She told me that it was her birthday and she was very happy to have a cake.  I was very happy that we were able to give it to her.

I can’t help but think of all the people whose hands were involved in making sure that a pink cake was at the Marana Community Food Bank exactly on the day it was needed for this young woman’s birthday.  It begins with the local supermarket that made the donation.  Then there is the volunteer van driver who picked it up earlier today and the team of volunteers who assisted the warehouse staff in taking that cake, and all the other donated food, out of the van.  The cake went from a box to a shelf where it was spotted after learning of the birthday.

The passing of the cake from the market to our lobby is a pretty clear path lined with helpers.  What is less obvious is the person who wrote a check to the food bank and allowed us to keep the van fueled and the warehouse cooled.  Or the group of people from a local church who recently trimmed our trees and removed some weeds so that the food bank would be a welcoming place to visit.   Or those in a neighborhood nearby who conducted a food drive.  All are needed and all are deeply appreciated.

As the director of the Marana Community Food Bank I get to see the smiles of the happy clients relieved that we are here to help with the food needs of those experiencing difficulties.  If only I could pass along a piece of the smile to all who help . . .
