Food Plus

This USDA food program provides low income mothers, children and the elderly with a monthly package of food. Eligibility is determined by the Pima County Health Department.
Recipients of Food Plus receive a six-month refillable prescription for food. The prescription is brought to the Food Plus Store at the Community Food Bank where women, children and elderly choose from a selection of foods. Food Plus is a joint venture between USDA, Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Pima County Health Department (PCHD).
There are four categories of low-income individuals that are eligible for Food Plus:
1) Pregnant mothers
2) Mothers who have given birth within the last year*
3) Children between the ages of 1 and 6 years old*
4) Senior Citizens over the age of 60
*While WIC does provide services to these same groups of people. An individual cannot use both programs at once. However a mother may be utilizing WIC and a child in the same household can utilize Food Plus.
