Independent Electrical Contractors of Southern Arizona
Apprenticeship & Training
The local association of the Independent Electrical Contractors of Southern Arizona operates an apprenticeship program for the electrical trade. During the four year programs, apprentices receive 144 hours of classroom instruction per year for a total of 576 hours as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training. Apprentices are also required to complete 8,000 hours (approximately 2,000 per year) of paid on-the-job training during the four year program with a minimum starting wage of $9.00 per hour. Additional hours of “hands-on” experience is gained by participating in various community service projects. Completion of the program certifies the apprentice as a “journeyman” electrician. Certificates of completion are awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Arizona Department of Commerce. Enrollment qualifications apply.
