Volunteer Opportunities!
Current Needs:
The CFB Kid’s Club (beginning Fall 2009)– – Adventures in Nutrition is a partnership between the CFB and seven City Parks and Recreation KIDCO programs to provide children a free, nutritious snack after school and nutrition education. The snack exceeds the USDA recommended guidelines for children and the education program teaches a variety of topics such as an in-depth look at the food pyramid, diabetes and other health concerns, the food system, exercise and the benefits of an active lifestyle. The education topics teach children to make healthier choices.
The Community Food Bank is looking for volunteers to assist the CFB and Parks and Recreation staff in teaching the education topics in the Kid’s Club – Adventures in Nutrition program. Volunteers must be 18 yrs of age, posses or acquire a fingerprint clearance card and participate in training before beginning. If you are interested in working with and teaching kids please contact Kristen Hershberger, CFB Volunteer Services Manager, at 520-622-2525 ext 204 or khershberger@communityfoodbank.com.

Help pick citrus fruit (Gleaning): The Community Food Bank is looking for individuals and groups to help pick citrus fruit from household trees as well as a large orchard. The picking (or gleaning) season is from January through March. We will be collecting fruit from households mainly the first part of the season and then towards the end of the season there will be a big gleaning project at a couple of orchards. Hours are weekdays and can be flexible. The work will be outdoors and requires physical dexterity. Enjoy the Arizona outdoors and help us pick some fruit.
Driver’s & Driver’s Assistant: The Community Food Bank needs the help of several individuals willing to help our drivers. Driver Assistants will ride along with our drivers and help pick up food at grocery stores, restaurants, resorts, etc. We are also looking for qualified volunteer drivers to pick up food from local donors.
