Volunteering at the Green Valley/Sahuarita Food Bank
Individual volunteer opportunities include warehouse and customer service work. Customer service opportunities include greeting clients and donors, checking in clients and assisting clients with shopping. Warehouse work includes sorting donations including bread and produce, riding with the driver for pick-ups, gleaning citrus, and warehouse clerk. Shifts are 2-4 hours in duration. Minimum age is 14 years or older. At certain times of the year there is a waiting list for volunteers. There are no group opportunities available. Limited court ordered volunteer opportunities are also available.

Greeter: people oriented; welcomes and signs in clients; assists people bringing in donations; requires standing for most of shift
Front Desk: computer skills needed; detail oriented; people friendly; fast paced; must be able to sit at desk for most of shift
Distribution Room: guides clients through their shopping experience; requires walking and standing for entire shift
Warehouse Desk: records items from truck delivery; writes receipts for personal donations; coordinates products for delivery to the Distribution Room; requires sitting and standing for most of shift and lifting up to 40 pounds
Warehouse Sorter: detail oriented; quality control function checking items that come into the Warehouse; requires standing for entire shift
General Warehouse: sorts produce and bread as it comes off the trucks; heavy lifting
Vehicle Crew: goes with driver to four local stores for pickup; help to load and unload; heavy lifting
Gleaner: January through April; pick citrus at private homes; requires ability to climb ladders and lifting buckets of picked citrus
NOTE: Some type of cleaning (sweeping, wiping down tables, emptying baskets, etc.) is required in all volunteer positions
What You Need to Do
Come to the Food Bank facility at 250 E. Continental Road, #101 in Green Valley to pick up an application
Ask to speak with Toni so she can guide you through the process
Return the completed application, in person, to Toni

You will be asked to attend a Volunteer Orientation session before you volunteer
